Uniform Wear & Care
Uniform Wear & Care
Uniforms
The uniform you wear as a cadet is nearly identical to that worn by personnel in the Navy. As such, it is important to wear it correctly, because how you present yourself reflects not only on you, but also on Dunedin High School and our NJROTC unit.
Wearing the uniform might feel tedious, awkward, or just plain uncomfortable at times—and trust us, it was the same way when Chief was a cadet in NJROTC last century. Yet it’s a vital part of how our unit operates, and you’ll quickly see how wearing it correctly demonstrates professionalism when representing Dunedin High School at events beyond campus.
These uniforms belong to the U.S. Navy and are entrusted to you as a cadet. They should be properly cared for and returned at the end of the year—or when you complete your time in the program. The only responsibility you and your parents have is keeping the uniform clean. With just a few exceptions, most items can be safely machine-washed and ironed at home, making it easy to maintain a sharp, professional appearance.
Issuing/Turning in Uniforms
Only clean uniforms are issued to cadets, and the same standard applies when returning them—whether you’ve outgrown an item or are leaving the program. Each uniform must be dry-cleaned and returned in the provided dry-cleaning bag, with the receipt attached. This ensures the uniform is ready for the next cadet and maintains the professional standards of our unit.
If a uniform is returned without being dry-cleaned, a $10 fine will be added to the cadet’s student account. Any missing uniform items will also result in fines, which must be cleared before grades or report cards are released. Taking care of your uniform and returning it properly is a small responsibility that reflects the respect and professionalism we expect from every cadet.
