Advancements
Advancements are an integral part of Dunedin NJROTC, making up 25% of your grade. Our advancement system is based on demonstrated knowledge and ability—not on the position you hold. All cadets wear the rank they have earned through promotion or advancement.
Cadets must complete advancement sheets, or “Qual Cards,” located next to the instructor’s office. The content you need to know depends on the rank you are pursuing and may include, but is not limited to:
General Orders
Principles of Leadership
USN/USMC Ranks and Rates
Community Service
Uniform Grade
Drill Knowledge and Skill
Once your Qual Card is complete, you are eligible to take the advancement exam, which has two parts: knowledge and drill. After passing the knowledge portion, cadets must complete a drill evaluation to earn the next rank. Be sure you know which type of drill is required for the rank you are pursuing. If you’re unsure or need guidance, your NS4s are always ready to help—just ask politely and take advantage of their experience.
